Colombian organized crime group the Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada (ACSN), has imposed a 48 hour shutdown on regions of Colombia’s northern coast in response to armed forces killing one of their commanders.
Armed gunmen on motorcycles fired at multiple businesses that opened their doors on Tuesday, defying the orders of the non-state armed group.
Also called the Pachenko, the group controls ports in Santa Marta, as well as parts of the Panamerican highway in the department of Magdalena, where Santa Marta is located.
The group passed out pamphlets saying the violent shutdown is in response to the deaths of Jose Luis Perez, a.k.a. “Cholo,” and six other ACSN fighters, who were killed during an offensive on Monday.
“We’re going to send them all to hell in body bags,” said Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella after the operation, in a video of himself walking among the bodies of those killed.
