To argue that “terror is the point” in Venezuela just like it is in the US ignores a key aspect of Venezuela’s historical development—the Venezuelan people have been under siege by US economic terrorism and hybrid warfare since the early 2000s. They have been the target of extensive CIA-backed right-wing Venezuelan regime change plots (see Juan Guaidó, Carlos Vecchio, Leopoldo López, Lester Toledo, etc). Doesn’t the fact that the US had to resort to illegally kidnapping the president in an operation that killed dozens of Venezuelan civilians serve as proof that the Bolivarian Revolution was justified?
I agree that these actions should be condemned—I just think it’s so often the case that it’s done so unequivocally as to dilute the historical context in which this is taking place, which is that Venezuela’s sovereignty has long been under attack by the Amerikan empire and its national integrity greatly weakened as a result. The working class people of Venezuela will always be the ones who suffer from such a dynamic.

I can't speak for Fausta, but at PWS we're generally not fans of police torture and sureveillace states regardless of flags
This piece isnt about "Is the Bolivarian Revolution justified." It's about giving voice to someone whose voice has been taken, twice.
No State is immune to criticism from our point of view. Bad actions should be condemned
